I love the old advertisements that are painted on some of the old businesses passing through the town. This was a new one that had been painted and I was partial to it because she was blonde of course!
Ryder and Scot taking a stroll along the old train tracks
At this point, I started getting really strong Braxton Hicks contractions and decided to take a minute to rest next to the old train depot. I'm really not loving the heat and humidity that the last days of July has to offer. I have done okay with the heat so far with my pregnancy up until this past weekend, but now it literally takes my breath away! I feel so out of shape right now compared to my earlier months, but I still wanted to get out of the house and get some much needed excercise this morning which I was so glad we were able to before it got too hot. I think by this point, even Tucker, my sweet yorkie, was ready to get back in the car and head home to get out of the heat.
Once back at the house, we had a few hours to kill before my mom and stepdad came over to pick Ryder up for the day so Scot and I could attend a Hospital Tour to see where I will deliver Brynley, and to get some errands done and have a date afterwards. Ryder has always been very fascinated with turning lights on and off, but lately he has gotten crafty and has started moving furniture around so he can stand up to turn them on. I've always heard that boys are more adventurous and I believe it! We were only able to contain him for so long as a baby, but now it seems that his toddler mode is full on rough and tumble, and into everything he shouldn't be. I love the expression of watching him figure things out on his own, and trying to be Mr Independent these days.
While I was making a list of last minute things I wanted to look for while we were out, I also made a mental note to try to get as much reading done as I could while Ryder was staying with my mom. I miss the days of getting to read whenever I want, and I just haven't had the time this pregnancy. I always make sure to write in Brynley's pregnancy book and of course to blog about each week, but I haven't made the time to read up on all of my pregnancy books and journals. My mother in law bought me a photography book on capturing babies that I wanted to start looking at, and I also wanted to brush up on my breastfeeding books too! It's all starting to hit me that we only have a few weeks left before Miss B gets here, and remembering all of the things about a newborn and the feeding schedules is enough to give me anxiety all over again. I continue to pray for guidence and wisdom as my days get closer of being a mommy of two, and I just hope that I will have the confidence and not doubt myself so much as I did with Ryder.
We made it through our Hospital Tour and were very impressed with how nice the rooms and Stork Landing delivery areas were. It has been a struggle I have dealt with this time around because I loved my OB who delivered Ryder and I was able to pick my hospital of choice, but he no longer does deliveries so I had to find someone new. I am very happy with the midwife that I chose, and she actually worked with my previous OB in his practice, so I do feel very calm about that decision. My only worries were that I was faced with having to deliver Brynley at a different hospital, because she only has rights to certain hospitals, and I wasn't sure if I would like it or not. It is a much smaller and somewhat older hospital and I think it was just the fear of the unknown that had me doubting so much. (I really need to work on this self doubt and pray to overcome it). I was very happy with some of the nurses we met and they truly made me feel much better about our decision and at least we will only be a mile or so from the hospital which makes Scot all the more happy, considering he will be the one driving us there! I have a good feeling that the nurses will take great care of us during our stay and I am so relieved and we can now move forward and focus on everything else.
The rest of the day we got a lot of our errands done and were able to shop for some last minute things for Brynley. We went to BuyBuy Baby, Babies R Us, and Super Target in Charlotte because it's the only shopping center that has a BuyBuy baby. It was nice to shop just the two of us, without having to take turns distracting our very active toddler from one aisle to another. I love buybuy baby because they honor all of the Bed Bath & Beyond coupons (thanks to my facebook friends clueing me in on that little tidbit!) and it is so organized and they carry a lot of items you can't find anywhere else. I only wish we had one closer, because by the time we got back in the car to head home, this was the temperature reading! No wonder I felt so exhausted and tired by the time we finally made it back to the car. It felt like the hottest day of the entire year, pregnant or not. We ended our day by grabbing food on our way home and watching a movie that night. Greek chicken pita for me, a greek Euro (or however you spell that) for Scot. Delish! We settled in and watched The Switch with Jennifer Aniston, which ended up being a cute movie, although slow at times. We both had a great day but missed our Ryder bug and were actually sad he wasn't there to snuggle between us as usual. It did give us the much needed time and rest that we needed, and I do love my date nights with Scot that I just get to talk and hang out like the old days.
Ryder was happy to see us when we came to get him the next morning, but didn't want us coming near, afraid that we would make him leave Nana and Pawpaw's house. He had so much fun with his Nana and Pawpaw, and I was shocked to hear that he even got in their pool! The boy is really starting to love water, and that makes this Mama so proud! He even slept from 8:45-7:30 the next morning which was huge, considering the boy has never been one to love sleep. We finally got his things together and out the door, and spent the rest of the day having a lazy Sunday spending time together before the work and daycare week started all over again. My countdown begins until the days we have left! This coming week will be a long one, having to work 5 days and staying late this week, but with patience and prayer, and taking it one day at a time, I know I can get through it and each week after will be a breeze.
Hope ya'll had a great weekend! What did you do?
